Meet the artsy owner of the fun craft retreat in Plainwell, MI
Hello artists of Plainwell, MI & Barry County! My name is Margie, and I’m the owner of Southgate Villa Retreat. If you had asked me 14 years ago if I thought I was creative or artistic, the answer would have been “absolutely not.” I work for a large corporation as a financial analyst, so I thought that there was no way I could have a creative side. But somewhere along the way, things changed.
In 2003, just before my son was born, a good friend of mine gave me a scrapbook as a baby shower gift. She was an avid scrapbooker who desperately wanted to teach me how to put photos into a scrapbook instead of throwing them into a shoebox. I was very skeptical that I could do anything other than glue a picture onto a page. But you know what? I surprised myself! Not only did I enjoy being creative, after a couple of years, I was actually pretty good!
I love the social aspect of scrapbooking: getting together with friends for a day or a weekend, being creative together, learning from each other, talking and laughing. I have met so many people and made many new friends while crafting. This creative outlet has been a true blessing.
A few years ago, I started thinking about how much fun it would be to own a scrapbooking retreat. But, of course, it was just a dream—until I stumbled upon the perfect place in Plainwell, MI. With the support, help and love of my family and friends, I’m making my dream a reality.
